Dec 2013 At the December 16, 2013 Board meeting, the Board approved the following recommendations of the Grants Committee:
  • 2 IEEE McNaughton Learning Resource Centre grants to establish new centres at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and L'École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS).

  • 5 IEEE McNaughton Learning Resource Centre upgrade grants to Student Branches at Concordia University, Algonquin College, University of Ottawa, University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus, Carleton University.

  • 6 ICF Special Grants to students for Baja SAE Université Laval, Longfields Secondary School robotics project (Ottawa), University of British Columbia field trip, Queens Communication Symposium for student paper travel support, and the UOIT Maker Faire.
Sept 2013 The ICF Board held a 2-hour teleconference on September 11 to focus on the year ahead. No Grant applications were received for consideration at this meeting.

The Board also received the Treasurer's reports and discussed planning reports submitted by all directors.

May 2013 Bob Alden steps down as President after many years of distinguished service to the ICF. Consistent with the established transition plan, David Whyte previously First VP and VP Grants is appointed as President. Dave Kemp becomes First VP and VP Grants. Bob Alden will continue to support the ICF as a Director.

April 2013 The Annual Membership meeting is held on April 10 and;

  • ICF AGM attendance: 6 in person + 14 by teleconference + 12 by Proxy
  • receives the President's annual report
  • re-elects directors for 3 years term
    • Denard Lynch
    • Luc Matteau
    • John Plant
  • elects directors for 3 years term:
    • Wahab Almutadi
    • Scott Lowell
  • receives the report of the Grants committee summarizing that in 2012, the IEEE Canadian Foundation awarded Scholarships, Learning Centre Upgrade Grants, Special Grants, Women in Engineering Prize, Vehicular Technology Travel Grant, Power Quality Scholarship, IEEE Canadian Foundation Québec Science Fair Prizes and funded IEEE Canada medals - totaling $62,350.
  • receives the audited financial statement and investment report for 2012
  • approves the 2013 operating budget and appoints the auditors for 2013
The Board of Directors meeting is held on April 10, after the Annual Membership meeting and;

  • awards seven IEEE Canadian Foundation Special Grants;

    • First Robotics Kings Christian Collegiate Oakville
    • Plasmonics Summer School
    • McGill BioSymposium 2013
    • IEEE Canada Humanitarian Technology Committee Student Competition
  • awards one Endowed Award:
    • Women in Engineering award to Malika Meghjanit
Jan 2013 At the January23, 2013 Board meeting, the Board ratified the previous email voting to appoint bilingual Elmer Bourque of the New Brunswick Section as Webmaster and Scott Lowell of the Hamilton Section as Secretary. The Board approved the following recommendations of the Grants Committee:

  • 6 IEEE McNaughton Learning Resource Centre upgrade grants to Student Branches at McGill University, Dalhousie University, Carleton University, University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus, Queen's University, and the University of Regina.


  • 6 ICF Special Grants to students at the University of Calgary for a lab project, Concordia University for a field trip, University of British Columbia for a robotics project, University of Waterloo for a nano-robotics project, University of Calgary for a course scheduling tool project, and McGill University for a Women In Engineering science workshop.
