About the Centre...

The purpose of the McNaughton Centre is to facilitate IEEE student member involvement in technical projects related to the field of electric and electronics engineering. Named after the distinguished Canadian electrical engineer, General Andrew G. L. McNaughton, the Centre is funded by grants from the IEEE for the purpose of giving IEEE student members a facility where they can carry out analysis and creation of technical projects. The McNaughton Centre in the Engineering Building at Memorial University of Newfoundland currently consists of a semi anechoic chamber, a personal computer, a calibrated microphone, high quality speakers, and an oscilloscope. These tools, along with the semi anechoic chamber are essential for any type of acoustic analysis and implementation project.

In the past, members of the IEEE Student Branch have used the Centre for term eight (8) technical projects, and independent interest projects such as the design and implementation of electronic sound effects processors. In the future, funding for the Centre will be used to purchase more technical equipment suitable for a wider range of electrical technical projects, not just acoustics and audio processing projects.
