INTRODUCTION The McNaughton Center at Dalhousie
first came into existence through a McNaughton Learning
Resource Center Grant awarded by the IEEE Canadian
Foundation (ICF) in 1989. For the first 8 years of its
life, the McNaughton Center existed under the TUNS
auspice. That changed in 1997, when Dalhousie bought
TUNS, since then the McNaughton Center has been operated
for (and by) the Electrical Engineering Students of
Dalhousie University.
The Center plays a large role in the day to day lives of
most students. We have tried to create a McNaughton
Center environment that helps students deal with the
academic and non-academic challenges presented by a
post-secondary engineering program. Our extensive library
of IEEE publications and supplemental textbooks, combined
with the study sessions provided and the constant student
body presence provide an excellent resource for students
needing help with assignments and test preparation. To
help with the grind of an overloaded semester we provide
fresh brewedcoffee, a microwave and fridge for all
students to use at their leisure. We also have started
programs that, we believe, will help students at all
levels become involved with the IEEE and succeed in their
studies (programs such as a Book Exchange, Study Groups,
and Lab Tutorials). There is more information about these
programs below, under Programs.
