The Answers
1 What is a Centre Web Site?
An IEEE McNaughton Learning Resource Centre web site is a set of web pages
that uses photographs and written descriptions to show what you have
developed as a student learning resource centre, how it is used by
your IEEE student members, and how it is used to promote the IEEE
to non-IEEE members.
The opening page of this set is linked to your branch home page, so
that visitors to your branch site will be aware you have such a centre
and what it contains.
This site is different from your branch site because it focuses on your
centre, whereas your branch site will likely contain a lot of other
information.
Your opening page should have the following heading with a link to the
IEEE Canadian Foundation web site:
You may find it useful to view the foundation web pages (one each for
Universities and Colleges) that contains all the links to department,
branch, and centre web sites - so you can see what other branches have
done, both with their centre and their associated web site.
2 Why have a Centre Web Site?
An IEEE McNaughton Learning Resource Centre is something special that
your branch should be proud of. You have your own space, unique
facilities, and you provide extra services to your fellow students.
Because these sites are linked from the foundation's web site, more
people become aware of what you have done - this brings credit to your
IEEE student branch and to your University or College.
Your fellow IEEE student volunteers, planned it, obtained permission
from your department chair and faculty dean to have the room alocated to
your branch, sucessfully requested a grant from the IEEE Canadian
Foundation to cover part of the cost of the equipment, and you keep it
going, and get useful management experience
3 How do I get my new Centre Web Site linked?
Just go to the IEEE Canadian Foundation web site, click on "Branch Updates"
on the left side navigation panel, and fill in the form provided, and use
the input box near the bottom of the form (item 10) to tell the foundation
that you have a new URL to be linked.
4 Does a Centre Web Site help when I apply for an upgrade grant?
Yes, because the foundation committee that evaluates grant applications
can see what facilities you have, what kind of services you offer, and
how effectively you have used previous foundation grants to your branch.
