W.O. (Bill) Kennedy (Member, 1970, Senior Member, 1981)
has thirty-five years of professional experience. He received
the BScEE from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton,
N.B., Canada in 1969. Currently, he is an independent consultant
in the electric power industry. His previous employment
experience includes principal engineer with
the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) the independent
system operator for Alberta as well management positions in a major electric
utility, and national and international work with a consulting
engineering firm. He is an expert in power system protection
and has published technical papers in IEEE and other journals.
He has ongoing executive experience with community, sport
and technical organizations.
He is a registered Professional Engineer in the provinces of
Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. In addition, he holds Permission to Consult from the
province of Saskatchewan. In 1998, he was elected a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of
Canada. In 2000, he was awarded the first EF Glass Merit Award for service to IEEE Canada.
He has been an active member of the Papers Committee for the Western Protective Relay
Conference since 1999 and previously from 1983 1987. In 2004, he was appointed a member
of the NERC System Protection and Control Task Force tasked with implementing the
recommendations of the NERC and Joint Canada US task force reports on the August 2003
Blackout.
An active IEEE volunteer since the 1980s, Mr. Kennedy has held the following positions at the
Section, Region and Board levels.
