Paul Fortier received his B.Sc. degree and his M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Laval University, Québec, Canada, in 1982 and 1984, respectively and his M.S. degree in Statistics and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1987 and 1989, respectively. Since 1989, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Laval University where he is currently a full professor. From 1991 to 1996, he was program director for the B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering and from 1997 to 2003, he was Chairman of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Since 2003, he is Associate Dean for Development and Research at the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He has done consulting work for several companies and government agencies in Canada. His research interests include digital signal processing for communications and the study of complexity and performance tradeoffs in hardware implementations, with applications in wireless and optical communications. He has been involved in the organization of national and international conferences and workshops in these fields. Dr. Fortier is a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada and a Senior Member of IEEE.

Paul Fortier a reçu son baccalauréat et sa maîtrise en génie électrique de l'Université Laval en 1982 et 1984, respectivement, et sa maîtrise en statistiques et son doctorat en génie électrique de l'Université Stanford en 1987 et 1989, respectivement. Il est au Département de génie électrique et de génie informatique de l'Université Laval depuis 1989 où il est présentement professeur titulaire De 1991 à 1996, il a été directeur du programme de baccalauréat en génie informatique, et de 1997 à 2003, il a été directeur du Département de génie électrique et de génie informatique. Depuis 2003, il est vice-doyen au développement et à la recherche de la Faculté des sciences et de génie. Il a effectué des travaux de consultations pour plusieurs compagnies et organismes gouvernementaux au Canada. Ses intérêts de recherches incluent le traitement du signal appliqué aux communications numériques et l'étude des compromis performances-complexité dans les réalisations matérielles, avec des applications en communications sans fil et en communications optiques. Il a été impliqué dans l'organisation de conférences nationales et internationales dans ces domaines. Le Dr Fortier est Fellow de l'Institut canadien des ingénieurs et membre sénior de l'IEEE.
